First Home Buyer: Clancy
A healthy lifestyle change helped recent first home buyer Clancy realise that home ownership was an achievable dream.
“I made a life choice earlier this year to give up smoking and since getting rid of that expensive habit, I realised a mortgage payment was achievable,” the 37-year-old photographer said.
“It’s important for me to have my own space instead of living with family or in share houses. I didn’t want to pay off someone else’s mortgage.”
Clancy heard about the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme through Beyond Bank, one of 27 participating lenders that offer the Scheme to eligible borrowers.
“They made it really easy. I applied online, then within 10 minutes they called me, we had a discussion and it was all in motion.
“I knew I wanted a free-standing home with more than 1 bedroom. I didn’t want to have to renovate anything immediately and I wanted a back yard and a good-sized living area.”
Working with real estate agents in Cootamundra, NSW, Clancy explored houses within his budget before putting an offer on his new home.
"Within half an hour after putting in my offer, we had a deal! My home has everything I need. It is in close proximity to town and friends and family. The backyard is huge with sheds and a nice garden. Inside has everything I need and room to grow. I love it!"
For those thinking of applying for one of 10,000 Scheme places for the 2020-2021 financial year, Clancy recommends starting the process now.
“The challenging part was saving my deposit, but the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme has really assisted me in this way,” he advised.
“Start looking so you don’t miss out on what you really want. Communicate often with your agents, your bank, lawyers. Stop paying rent, buying a home is achievable.
