Help to Buy Scheme
The Help to Buy scheme is an Australian Government shared equity initiative formally established through legislation passed by the Commonwealth Parliament on 27 November 2024. In March 2025, the Government announced expanded eligibility to increase Scheme accessibility by raising income and property price caps.
Help to Buy will be administered by Housing Australia and will commence once the Program Directions are in force. Additionally, states must pass enabling legislation for the Scheme to operate within their jurisdiction, though this requirement does not extend to territories. As of May 2025, Queensland, Victoria and NSW have passed the necessary legislation. At this time, the program start date has not been determined.
Housing Australia will continue to update its website as further information becomes available regarding the commencement of Help to Buy.
