New social and affordable homes to be delivered at three sites in North Parramatta

Housing Australia has approved up to $17.7 million in funding to enable the delivery of 66 new social and affordable homes across three sites in North Parramatta.

The Community Housing Provider, Hume Community Housing, is utilising funds to enable the delivery of 28 social and 38 affordable dwellings that consist of one- and two-bedroom apartments.

The new social and affordable homes will be prioritised for eligible applications across two key cohorts; older women on low incomes experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness and key frontline workers. The new homes are located within walking distance from Western Sydney University, Parramatta Campus, and only 3 kilometres from Parramatta CBD.

Construction will soon commence at the Collett Parade and Irving Street sites and is expected to be completed in 2026. The Development Application for Pennet Street is now approved, and construction will commence later this year.

Housing Australia is supporting the new housing projects through the National Housing Infrastructure Facility Social and Affordable Housing (NHIF SAH) program, with a $14.2 million loan and $3.5 million grant. Homes NSW is investing the land for the three sites along with $11.5 million in capital.

Housing Australia CEO, Scott Langford said, “Through this partnership, we’re not just enabling more housing, but working together to demonstrate the power of collaboration to deliver well located homes that enable tenants access to secure and safe housing in communities close to where they work.”

Homes NSW CEO, Rebecca Pinkstone said, “To address the housing crisis we all need to work together, and this project is a clear example of what can be achieved when different levels of government come together with the community housing sector to deliver more homes.

“Western Sydney desperately needs more housing and across the three sites this development will take six former fibro and weatherboard cottages that were no longer fit for purpose and transform them into more than 60 units that the waitlist is desperately in demand for.”

Hume Community Housing CEO, Brad Braithwaite, said, “This much-needed development shows the power of public, private and not-for-profit partnerships to deliver tangible housing solutions for those who need it most.

“We thank the Federal and NSW Government for their substantial investment, Parramatta Council for their support and our building partners Mono Constructions who will deliver these high-quality homes.

“For thirty years Hume Housing has been providing social and affordable housing in western Sydney, we are proud to deliver more options for people to access a safe, secure and affordable home.”
